Stupid scales

I got happy today then not so happy. I've been sick, without going into details and figured I should have dropped a few pounds during said sickness. So I get on my scales today and I'd lost 18 lbs according to them. Well, I knew that sounded off because I'd have noticed an 18 lb loss. However, I figured it was off by a few. So R suggests I use the Wii scales. Well duh, I should have thought of that myself! So I excitedly get on those and lo and behold the others were wrong. I am the same exact weight. I was so sad. I mean what does it take? Surely this sickness hasn't helped one iota!

Oh well, time to worry about the dieting and all that in a few days. I found the most awesome seafood salad ever. It's at Pepper's Mexican Grill. It's lettuce, peppers, onions, a little cheese, scallops, crab and shrimp. I've never had a hot seafood salad and not only is it enough for 3 days of meals, it's delicious! Something to consider once I get rid of this holiday food.

One nice day

Well, we have one nice day of weather coming. On Thursday the high is supposed to be around 67 and I can't wait. I don't even care if it rains, I'm sick of this cold weather. Sure, since we're having a/c issues that we have to fix I shouldn't complain but I hate cold weather! I like being able to open up the windows and the doors and let the dogs go in and out and smell the fresh air. Well, one day of near-perfect weather is better than none so I'll take what I can get.

A new project

We decided on a new project. We're making pet memorials, leash holders and things like that. We have a few other things on the horizon but that's what we are starting with for now. I think it's a fun project so far and if none sell, at least it's stuff we can keep for ourselves.

We had a difficult time with certain craft items at first but once we got that part straightened out I think the stuff we've done so far (save one) has turned out gorgeous. I'll post pictures once we're ready for that stage. We just finished a few things tonight. I can't wait for everyone to see what we've done so far. :) I'll probably put them up on Etsy or something to see how it goes.

Christmas

We had a wonderful Christmas with both of our families. The food was awesome and the company was even better. We got wonderful presents and our doggies enjoyed the gifts as well. Now I'm tired and ate too much but it was well worth it. I'm looking forward to a new year filled with prosperity and wellness. I hope you all had a great Christmas like us.

Christmas Lights

Tuesday, December 22, 2009

Better late than never

We finally got the Christmas lights up. R put them all up today and the outside things and it looks awesome. I'll try to get him to take a picture to post. He did all the work. :) The funny thing is that the lights on the roof kept going out and he kept fixing them. Finally he saw the tiny print that said you can only string two sets end to end. I asked him how many he'd strung and he said five. LOL Now they're all working.

Lasik at Stahl Eye Center

You know, lately I really need glasses and I’m not too keen on this idea. I wore them when I was in elementary school and that’s enough. I’d love to get Lasik though. From what I hear, there’s no pain, you can see clearly in a couple of days and sometimes hours and it eliminates the need for contacts or glasses.

I’d love to be able to visit Stahl Eye Center where their doctors all graduated from places like UCLA, Johns Hopkins and Yale. They also have three locations in New York including Manhattan and Long Island. That’d also give me an excuse to visit NYC.

Doctor information available here.

Something I forgot

While we were on our it-didn't-happen vacation we had gone to the port and was being redirected to the civic center and got a little lost. We pulled into a parking lot and a guy came up to our truck and was asked where the civic center was. He said he'd tell us for $5. Now while we had that on us, you can imagine what R told him about that arrangement. I wonder if anyone actually paid to get directions. What a jerk!

Calling cards for when you're away

Sometimes you may find yourself needing a Prepaid International Phone Card. Whether it's because you are out of the country or you have family or friends out of the country it can come in handy.

I know when we go on cruises these would help out. It costs quite a bit to use your cell phone internationally so if I had international calling cards then I wouldn't have to worry about the cell phone bill once I get home. I can call everyone and let them know we made it.

So the next time we're in The Bahamas, Grand Cayman or Mexico, I think I'll check out the international phone cards from Union Telecard at an excellent price; as little as one cent per minute!

Regretsy + me = FTW (almost)

Regretsy just had a little contest and I made it to level 4.5 with two of my entries, which was only one step below winning. Suck on that level 4 through 1. I shall include my entries here, in all of their glory!

Misc stuff (movies, falls and more)

Saw Avatar today and loved it. Totally cool experience and thought the movie was phenomenal! On the way to the truck we'd got our Starbucks coffee and R went to get in and I tripped in the parking lot on a grassy type area and fell flat on my face. I figured he'd find me after me not getting in for a while. LOL Get this though, I didn't spill a drop of coffee. FTW! Anyway, I hurt my knee and got some road rash on my arm and now my poor back hurts too. Woe is me.

Tonight we watched Inglorious Basterds and that was good too. It was long and I'd have trimmed about 30 mins off but I liked it. R didn't like it too much though. Anyway, that's my day. Great movies, not so great at walking.

Avatar

I'm getting so excited. Just one more day till I can go see Avatar, unless I want to go at midnight. I haven't been this excited about a movie in quite some time. I even love the theme song done by Leona Lewis. Either way, you can bet I'll be getting my tickets tonight so we can go see it. I'll let you all know what I thought once we finally get to.

Our non-vacation

Well, we went to Mobile and when we got there we encountered the worst fog I've ever seen. You could not even see a foot in front of you. When we got to the port the next day we were given a flyer stating we should head to the convention center or civic center, rather. Turns out that the fog was too bad for a ship to dock and the port was closed. We spent hours and hours at the center awaiting word. No ship that night. They decided they'd try the next day and one port would be all that we'd go to. Since we were looking forward to going to Calica so we could visit Xcaret, we opted to get a free cruise instead of going on this one. So we came back home last night. It really sucked but I'd rather wait then go on a cruise to one port for 5 days. I did meet some cool people, too bad we couldn't have gone on with them but being only 3 hours from home helped make our final decision. Plus, we'd rather go on the full cruise. Perhaps we should consider Fractional Yacht Onwership next time and take our own boat. However, if the port is closed there is nothing you can do. I'm just glad we could be home so fast. We did encounter more fog and then this huge storm on the way home. This one tops our worst vacation ever list.

And we're off...

We're heading out tomorrow. I'll miss my doggies and birds (maybe the cat) and my own bed but can't wait to head to some sunshine and beautiful beaches. Everything can wait till we get home to fret over. This will be a very nice trip and I'm looking forward to it.

We finally got to finish season 5 of LOST. I loved it and can't wait for it to return. Let's just hope it "fits" this season or we'll have to wait to see it again. I personally still think it has a religious theme even though they said it was just time travel. Well why not both? Sort of a Dan Brown-type science meets religion. That's my guess anyway.

Oh and I passed my last test so I have B's for both classes. Not bad at all. :)

See you all when we return. I can e-mail if you need me, just no texting or social networking.

Almost Time

Well, we have just a few days before we go on our trip to Mexico. The house sitter is all set, alarm active, list made and much more to do. I need to get my hair and nails done before we go and we haven't even begun to think about packing. We're kind of last minute packers anyway. Tomorrow there's a few things to get done then Saturday we can pack everything and be ready to go. I like that there's not this huge hurry on Sunday since Mobile is like a 3 hour drive instead of the usual 6-7 hour drive down south. This will be a nice change, not to mention that when we get back we'll be home by noon. I really like that one. I took my last test today and all we have to worry about when we return is finishing up Christmas shopping and well, bills. But for now, all I care about is having a good time in what has been a lackluster winter for us and a lot of people. This trip was booked and paid for well before things like loss of jobs, our bank being sold or merged and that kind of economic nightmare. I'm glad though because for a week we can just worry about getting to our shore excursions on time and what to choose at dinner. (I hope they offer escargot again, I absolutely loved it last time after having never tried it)

Our Christmas Card

To everyone, here is our Christmas card this year. Swan is wearing a Snuggie because I had this idea of putting them all in Snuggies and saying, "The doggies were nestled, all snuggied in bed" but it didn't work out that way. However, Swan loves her Snuggie, which is a huge surprise.

Get electronics for as little as $1

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Bidazzled. All opinions are 100% mine.

Looking for a great deal? Want to help out charity? What if you could do both at the same time? Bidazzled is a site that was launched in November and offers savings up to 90% off of name brand merchandise and does all this while funding The Ruch Foundation, which is a charity created for lung cancer.

The type of auction base that is used is commonly known as penny auctions. What you do is purchase bids in advance. Bids cost $1 and once there are no more bids, the auction closes and you could very easily win electronics and more for just $1. They also have a nice program where no one loses. If you don’t win the item you get 50 bonus bids just for participating. Right now they have an awesome deal where if you register right now and use the code listed, you can get 15 additional bids and there’s no cost or obligation involved.

* Twitter: BTP1202A

Bids are purchased in packs as low as $25 for 25 bids. Not only that but you also get bonus bids for any packs you purchase. It’s a win/win situation for everyone and they also have a referral program where you get bids for telling your friends about them.

One down, one to go

I do believe I just aced one of my finals. Now I just have one more and I'm done till the spring semester. I had this coughing/allergy thing in class and had to leave for just a minute but that's not as bad as my friend at Starbucks. She has lost her voice and has an oral presentation in Spanish class tomorrow. Now that sucks! I hope the test I have Thursday is as easy as this one was for me.

What a storm!

We had the biggest storm last night and yesterday. This thing lasted all darn night too, with more rain to come. I actually thought of Noah and the Ark, it was that much rain. It did finally clear up today but more to come, albeit without the winds, etc. It's funny because someone mentioned that this was worse than any tropical storm we had this year and for us, they are totally correct. They closed schools in another county but they're open here. We had tornado warnings too. Thankfully we got none of those.
