Deck Maintenance

When you own a redwood deck, regular wood deck maintenance is what will keep your deck functional and looking great for years to come.

One thing to keep in mind is that with debris such as leaves and trash on top of your deck can cause mold, mildew, algae and fungus. An easy remedy is to regularly sweep and rinse your deck off, paying special attention to in between the deck boards. For any build up that cannot be simply rinsed away, a scrub brush with soap and water will take care of it. All of these cleaning methods can be done with items around your house so it takes little effort to keep your deck in tip-top shape. It is important to do this type of maintenance on composite decking as well. While you don't have to restore composite decking, you do need to keep it maintained.

Now if you feel that it is time to restore your deck, a redwood deck is easy to do. There is a plethora of products you can use to restore your deck to its former beauty and all you have to do is decide which one is right for you. A few things to keep in mind in order to make your choice is the age of your deck, the shape it's in, how much shade or sun your deck gets and the type of harsh weather it may be exposed to. While wood deck maintenance helps out, the restoration process can really beautify your decking. You can find deck cleaners, brighteners and restorers at most hardware stores. These products allow the natural look of the deck to be showcased, without adding unnecessary color. Once you have used one of these products and allowed your deck to dry, you can add a sealer, repellent or finishing stain if you desire.

Wood deck maintenance is not only easy to perform but it's cheap to do and your deck will reap the benefits from just a little work.
