Beauty Tip of the Day - Homemade Salt Scrub

I love salt scrub and I love how it makes my skin feel after using it but I had never really thought about making my own until New Year's Eve. We were at a restaurant/bar with some friends and in the bathroom was this bowl of flaky stuff you used to wash your hands. It was a salt scrub and they had it for sale at around $25 a jar. I looked up how to make my own and was quite pleased. Best of all, I had everything at home I needed.

What you need are: mason jars, sea salt, essential oil(s), and some kind of oil - you can even use Canola oil in a pinch but no baby oil. Also, some decorative ribbon, etc for the jars. I use ribbon and a seashell to get the salt out, which sits on top of the jar when not being used. It looks very pretty.

Fill your jar with sea salt. We have saltwater aquariums so we're rolling in salt. If the apocalypse comes then we can cure our own meats - just saying.

Choose your favorite essential oil which you can find at Walmart but Amazon has better prices and more choices. Anyway, pour a few drops of essential oil in the salt mix, add some regular oil, and stir. Not too much oil that it's swimming in it but enough to soak the salt.

This mixture will dry more as time goes by and you'll end up with the flaky awesomeness we saw in the bathroom at the restaurant. They had theirs in a big bowl but I like mine to be able to close so that dust or whatever doesn't get in it.

To use you simple rub the dry ingredients on your skin and rinse off with warm water. You'll smell unbelievable, your skin will be silky smooth, and it exfoliates as well. They say not to use it on your face but why not? You exfoliate your face anyway with beauty scrubs and this is all-natural. I use it on my face quite often just not every day. A little goes a long way and it makes perfect little gifts as well.

I may be forgetting something but if you have any questions just ask. Oh, now I remember! You can use coconut oil which works well but it will get more solid if your house gets cold. I tried it the first time and it's ideal for using on the skin but it doesn't keep as well due to the cold. You can search online and find out which oils work best and what mixtures but honestly, ours works great and it was simple and cheap.

Tip of the Day - Beauty Products

I don't have a beauty blog but I write enough articles about beauty products (and use them) that I know enough to give a few tips here and there.

Today's tip: Find products that have peptides, matrixyl, hyaluronic acid, and if possible, all natural ingredients. These components help the skin and can be found in products that are affordable.

There are many products out there but look for these things in them. Peptides help the skin produce more collagen,  hyaluronic acid helps the skin maintain its moisture, and retinol increases cell production. All are natural components although there is synthetic retinol available as well. Matrixyl is another peptide to look out for.

Estaries Donner Darnell RIP

Last week our precious Donner, a Belgian Malinois, had to go in for his comprehensive exam. He'd been a little sick but the next week he was throwing up all of his food. It turns out that he was in kidney failure. We knew his kidney enzyme levels were high in the past but nothing like this where it had escalated this fast.

The staff and vet was super nice and best of all, honest. We were told we could do very expensive treatment but it most likely would not work and would only give us another few months even if it did work. Plus, our dog would be hospitalized for 8-12 hours a day for this.

After the hard decision of euthanasia, the staff was so kind and helpful and Donner simply went to sleep with no issues. We were allowed as much time as we needed and were never spoken to with anything but kindness. I know Donner is in doggy heaven but knowing he went to sleep and has no more pain comforts us when we want to feel crushed over this.

It's been very hard and we miss him more than anything. If you've ever loved a pet then you know exactly what I mean. We love you, Precious Donner - 4/19/2008-1/7/2015.

Towable Tubes for Your Summer Fun on the Water

While freezing temperatures outside may make you feel as if summer is so far off, what better way to enjoy this coming summer than with towable tubes?

At the Recreation and Sports Store Online, you can find a variety of awesome inflatable tubes and they're backed by a 90 day warranty so you don't have to worry about any issues. These tubes are perfect for 2 person riders so you can share the fun with someone else.

For instance, the Airhead Turbo Blaster features deluxe nylon handles for a comfortable grip and there are four of the neoprene knuckle guards. These also inflate fast as well due to the Airhead Multi-Valve which allows you to inflate and deflate as fast as possible so you don't have to wait to have fun.

So, if you're looking for something exciting to do on the water this summer, you'll love these 2 rider inflatables.

I don't write here as often as I used to and I need to do it more often. I was looking for a post back from 2011 and saw how much I used to share interesting stuff. To me, anyway.

Feeling overwhelmed this week. We have a sick dog, a house repair to do, work obligations, and a few other things going on I don't care to share publicly. I know this will all pass and I don't have any room to feel sorry for myself when so many have it worse. However, I do get overwhelmed by life sometimes, like many of us.

Hopefully I can find the time to write more things here that people care about reading.
