Places to Photograph in Boston

As a photographer, I’m always on the lookout for exciting places to photograph when I’m in another city. While it may be a little while before my next excursion out of town, here are some awesome places to take photographs in Boston.

Public Garden

With a very pedestrian name, the Public Garden is anything but. There is plenty of opportunity for great sky views with the park area as your focus and if you go in the summer, you’ll be just in time for the flowers to start blooming which really adds to your colors.

The Public Garden is about as centrally located as it gets in Boston. Take the Green Line to either the Arlington or Boylston stop, or the Red Line to Park Street. There is also a parking garage below Boston Common for those who want to drive but don’t want to deal with hunting for a spot and parallel parking.

Skywalk Observatory

I love aerial views and this is the perfect place to get them. It’s a 50 story ride up and you get a panoramic view of the entire city. Whether you go in the daytime or at night, you’ll get really good views of the city but don’t forget to choose the right lens You may have some glare from the windows but in the daytime you can choose where to shoot from that has the best angle away from the sun.

To get there it is reachable from the Copley Square and Hynes Convention Center stops on the main Green Line. There is also a parking garage beneath the Pru, for those who want to take a car.

Central Burying Ground

While plenty of people like to photograph all kinds of architecture and beautiful places, I like a different kind of Boston real estate – graveyards. The Central Burying Ground may not be the most famous cemetery or the prettiest but it has the best atmosphere. The land was purchased in 1756 and this cemetery is considered undesirable but you’ll find plenty of brick and stone tombs for early immigrants and even poetry for the children buried there.

You can find it at Boylston Street, between Charles Street and Tremont Street.

There are plenty of other beautiful sights to see and places to photograph such as Longfellow Bridge, Harvard Bridge, Zakim Bridge, Beacon Hill, and Copley Square.
